Silicon Laboratories Selects Sonic Network’s EAS to Provide Ringtone on the AeroFONE Single-chip Phone

Boston, MA January 17, 2006 --- Sonic Network, Inc., a provider of audio synthesizer technology, today announced that Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq: SLAB), a leader in high-performance, analog-intensive, mixed-signal ICs, has licensed Sonic Network’s EAS™ (embedded Audio Synthesis) technology for incorporation into Silicon Laboratories’ AeroFONE™ GSM/GPRS single-chip phone. Sonic’s EAS is a device-hardened and validated, high quality audio synthesis solution that supports all current and legacy ringtone formats and provides advanced MIDI audio capabilities to support advanced mobile gaming applications.

”The AeroFONE solution is a complete cell phone system on a single monolithic chip, and partnering with best-in-class providers complements our flexible and fully featured solutions,” said Dan Rabinovitsj, vice president of Silicon Laboratories. “We are pleased to be working with Sonic Network to deliver value-rich audio features to support the growing demand for advanced multimedia functionality on all handsets.”

Jennifer Hruska, founder and president of Sonic Network stated, “Silicon Laboratories’ engineering teams have unsurpassed expertise in mixed-signal technology which has allowed them to create highly integrated wireless chipsets using far less external components than competing solutions. Today’s handset manufactures are now demanding the same on the software side – the pre-integration and validation of the multi-media and communication functionality into complete phone solutions. Therefore, we are pleased to be working with Silicon Laboratories to leverage our market proven, 3rd generation MIDI synthesizer on the Silicon Laboratories platforms.”

Together, Silicon Laboratories and Sonic Network defined a unique hardware/software co-design that leverages the EAS technology and the AeroFONE dual processor (DSP/ARM) architecture. By splitting the audio solution across both processors, the resulting solution is a resource-efficient yet high-performance melody player. This eliminates yet another expensive integrated circuit in the bill-of-materials adding to the benefits, performance and savings afforded by the AeroFONE single-chip family of products.
